Letter to My Son

Letter to My Son

The empty arms of yesterday

Are now a memory

Oh, the joy that filled my heart

When you were sent to me.

Your tiny smile lit up the sky

How my heart did sing

The day you came into my life

Was like a breath of spring.

I watched you as you quickly grew

Throughout the coming years

Many times you slipped and fell

I gently wiped your tears.

Tricycles and bicycles

You brightened up my day

Days at school and swimming pools

You went about your way.

Basketball and fishing trips
Friends and flying kites
Dating girls and senior prom
Long and sleepless nights.

Little League and P.T.A.
The years went by too fast
Long and happy days gone by
I think about the past.

Through it all, I thank the Lord
He heard my earnest plea
But most of all, the single mom
Who gave her son to me.
